Playing Flip UltraHD videos on Apple TV

Here is a little (off topic) something for all you Googlers out there.

I tried to find this info and couldn’t. I was amazed how easy it was after all the the crap I tried to try and get Flip Ultra HD videos playing on my Apple TV.

After wading through lots of complicated stuff about incompatible frame rates and resolutions, it really is a two step process once you have the right software.

How to play your Flip Ultra HD videos on your Apple TV easily!

1. Get Apple QuickTime

2. Get a Quicktime Pro serial number

3. Drag your Flip Ultra HD video files onto an empty QuickTime Pro window

4. File > Export > Apple TV

5. That’s it!

Get 10% off your gourmet outdoors grub

The nice folks at http://www.thejollygourmand.co.uk/ are giving all readers of Hike Wales a welcome 10% off the tasty grub on their new website. Use the code ‘hike’ (all lowercase).

I have tried quite a few of these now and I must say, I am a big fan. Their pouched meals are a million miles away from the normal boil-in-the-bag offerings. I’ll be putting up a full review of several of their meals soon.

As well as the ‘Look What We Found’ range, they also have the new ‘Sharrow’ range. If you like your food, give them a try.

We make Butternut Squash soup regularly at home and looking at the ingredients in their version, their recipe looks spot on. Looking forward to trying it on my next camping trip.

Memory Map on iPhone “coming soon”

Memory Map (UK) have finally made an announcement this morning (see below). It will be interesting to see how they handle the the PC - iPhone transfer of the maps. I do hope all of us using older versions of the software and maps will not be left out.

How soon is “very soon”? We’ll have to wait and see.

We've lost count of the amount of requests we've had for an iPhone application to run Memory-Map's award winning software and maps.  As we value our customers' opinions we have been hard at work developing an iPhone 'app' which will be available very soon.

The iPhone app will display maps from Memory-Map's current range, including Ordnance Survey's Explorer 1:25,000 and Landranger 1:50,000 maps, CAA and marine charts and all of our worldwide mapping.

The Memory-Map app links to the iPhone's GPS to show real time positioning and you'll be able to download routes, tracks and waypoints as well as access a host of other useful features.

We're extremely excited about the new Memory-Map iPhone app so keep an eye out for our next newsletter, where we'll be announcing more details about what you can expect.

The Memory-Map iPhone app will be available through Apples App store and all our maps are available through all leading outdoor, cycle and other specialist retailers.

Fire Spout – made in Wales too!

I’ll have some great news on some wood burning stoves very soon. You can take a sneak peek at the Fire Spout website, but I’ll have reviews and plenty of photos to show you soon.

Memory Map on the iPhone

mmap

This is an artists impression!

In a very sensible commercial move (IMHO), Memory Map are to release their software on the iPhone platform.

Digital mapping has taken the outdoor industry by storm with new devices and software appearing regularly at trade shows. Memory Map software uses digital Ordnance Survey maps and currently is only available on the Pocket PC and the Road Angel device.

With the restriction to O2 lifted, this will make the iPhone 3GS the most complete digital tool for any outdoor enthusiast and help keep Memory Map well ahead of the game.

There is already a free OS Map application on the iPhone, [iOSMaps uses OS OpenSpace] but it is still quite early in it’s development.

Here is the quote taken from the Australian Memory Map forum

Stop Press
Memory-Map is developing an i-Phone application that will be able to use the existing range of maps and charts published by Memory-Map. The release is expected in early 2010.

Fingers crossed this will apply to the UK too. Roll on ‘early 2010’.

A sad time

Another apology.

Sorry for the lack of activity recently. The reason I haven’t been posting is that I have had some personal stuff to deal with. Last week I lost my younger sister to breast cancer.

Big love goes out to mum and dad and my brother in law Gary and my wonderful nieces.

Thanks

Chris

Unashamedly off topic

Sorry for this huge plug but my company is looking for three good people to join my team of 18. If you know anyone who may be interested in the following jobs (and I’ll throw in unlimited weekend access to the Brecon Beacons as part of the package!), please let them know…

  • Firstly, we need a project manager to cover maternity leave for 6 months (starting in December). Its a great role for someone who is meticulously organised!
  • Secondly, we are after a .NET web developer to join our technical team.
  • Lastly, we have an opening for a Front End Web Developer (XHTM / CSS guru who loves all things web and wants to build wonderful sites for some HUGE clients).

Full details can be found here. Once again, sorry for hijacking the blog for business stuff.
