I’m a big fan of Punk Publishing (that’s not a movement, but a publisher).
I have pretty much all of their books and I’ll probably be in the next Cool Camping book as their photographer shot me on a recent family camping trip at Ty Parke (more soon – just sorting the 500 photos I took).
A while back they published a book called Wild Swimming – listing lots of great places in the UK you can go for a… well, wild swim. Bloody freezing though as there are a lot of mountain streams that will never really warm up – even in mid August.
They have just released a new book – Wild Swimming: Coast
Build a beach kite, swim in midnight phosphorescence or find a beach pub with a roaring fire. If you don’t like driving, you’ll find cycle routes, walks and train information. For the intrepid, there’s information on wild camping, cave swimming, cliff jumping and coastal scrambling. And for every location you’ll find difficulty ratings and safety guidelines.
Whether you’re a water baby or just an occasional dipper, you’ll want to get your fins and flippers firmly around this refreshing and original guide to exploring the sea along our great British coastline.
The only problem with all of these type of books and the wonderful places they list is that you’ll soon be queuing up for a pitch or a swim behind all the X5 driving pseudo/nouveau outdoorsy, North Face clad, Merrell/Keen wearing ‘new yuppies’.
So if you see their photographer lurking around your favourite campsite, picnic spot or swimming hole, let slip about the plans for the new power station and the sewage farm that have just been passed.
